March 2007

LFHS Librarian, Kerry Flaherty and school psychologist, Cassie Black hosted the kick-off meeting to introduce 68 teachers from District 115 and District 67 to an on-line Kessler Institute book study on the new Daniel Goleman book, Social Intelligence.

This program will help teachers inspire students to get the most out of their learning. The student/teacher relationship can be extremely powerful and may shape both parties in significant ways. This will be an 8-week on-line course connecting bestselling author Daniel Goleman's
Social Intelligence with the day to day practice in our schools.

Participants will get the opportunity to read this exciting new book, post and respond to discussion topics, and produce a final project demonstrating how they will apply the concepts of the book within the school environment. The offering will be a virtual class offered using Edline technology. The LFHS Foundation has granted money to this program to support the cost of the books.
